Scott McConnell, co‑founder of The American Conservative, is calling for the 25th Amendment to be invoked to remove Donald Trump from office.
Donald Trump has faced intense criticism since the conflict with Iran began. His return to the White House has been anything but calm, and the past weeks have been marked by rapid developments and controversial decisions.
Trump’s actions — including coordinated airstrikes with Israel against Iran — have sharply divided public opinion. The conflict in the Middle East has had devastating consequences, with more than 3,000 people reported killed, including over 1,000 civilians. Tensions continue to rise.
Now, a prominent conservative commentator is urging Vice President JD Vance to take the extraordinary step of removing President Trump from office.
“Announce your support of 25th Amendment transition” In a series of posts on X, Scott McConnell suggested that Vice President JD Vance should consider invoking the 25th Amendment — a rarely used constitutional mechanism that allows a president to be removed under specific circumstances.
According to VT, McConnell wrote: “My advice to Vance: Announce your support of 25th amendment transition,” before outlining what he described as a possible path forward.
He continued: “Say Chris Murphy or similar will be veep. Announce you will NOT be a candidate in 2028. Use your position, access to the media to explain why this is necessary. Don’t resign.”
McConnell argued that Democratic Senator Chris Murphy would be a suitable choice for vice president, describing him as anti‑war, “smart,” and “not super woke.”
He wants Trump removed from office Although McConnell did not directly reference Trump’s decision to strike Iran in that particular post, he has previously criticized U.S. military involvement in the region.
He also suggested that Senator Marco Rubio could play a role in resolving the crisis, writing that Rubio could join the effort, “keep his job, negotiate a ceasefire and be the GOP frontrunner,” according to VT.
McConnell later returned to X with even sharper criticism of the administration, writing:
“So Netanyahu fed Trump BS intelligence. Trump, ignoring his own intelligence agencies, lapped it up. Now because things didn’t work out like the BS intelligence claimed, wants to commit genocide in our name. OK.”
President Trump recently stated that “strong” talks with Iran are underway regarding a possible ceasefire. However, Iranian officials have since rejected those claims.
