Andy Dick is offering an update following his apparent overdose in December 2025.
The comedian appeared on the Howie Mandel Does Stuff podcast on Tuesday, March 3, where he discussed waking up in an ambulance after losing consciousness in Los Angeles on Dec. 9, 2025, and how he views his health nearly three months later.
After Mandel, 70, asked whether he had “died” or if his “heart stopped,” Dick replied, “yeah.”
“Purple, not breathing,” he said, noting that he didn’t remember anything before “waking up in the ambulance.” He added that he didn’t know what substance caused the reaction, before another man in the studio explained that the person who gave him “the drug” also “had NARCAN.” The man, who identified himself as Adam and was identified by Entertainment Weekly as Adam Carbone, said he is directing a documentary about Dick’s sobriety journey.
Dick also shared that he underwent a “CAT scan thing, or whatever they call it in your brain,” where doctors found five to seven holes. A representative for Dick tells PEOPLE that the “issue with his brain is from the 2019 attack that almost killed Andy when an unprovoked attacker cold‑cocked him outside the club where he and Paris Dylan had just performed,” adding that his team is “assured his brain will heal.”
Dick now lives in a “sober‑living” community, where he is “not allowed to” use drugs and is regularly drug tested, he told Mandel.
“As everyone knows, Andy has been battling his addictions for years,” the representative also told PEOPLE. “There was an incident this past December, but I am happy to report that Andy is healthy, sober and doing great!”
A spokesperson previously shared in January that Dick was “out of rehab,” “sober,” and expecting his first grandchild. TMZ had earlier released footage of Dick — who has long struggled with alcohol and drug addiction and has had prior arrests — sitting outside a 7‑Eleven near Highland and Yucca on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
At the time, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson told PEOPLE that officials responded “at 3:14 p.m. for a 59‑year‑old male,” but declined to confirm the patient’s identity due to HIPAA laws. “But we did respond to that location for an overdose. He was not transported to the hospital,” the spokesperson said.
Elsewhere in the podcast, Dick said there was “one word that I always use” when explaining why he turned to substances: “Boredom.”
