A teenage boy who became a father at just 12 years old has now been given a court order banning him from sleepovers with his girlfriend.
Viewers may recognize Hunter Johnson (now 14) and his 15‑year‑old girlfriend, Bella Vaughn, from the TLC reality series Unexpected.
The young couple appeared on the show last month, and their story drew widespread attention. The series describes itself as offering a “raw look at teenage pregnancies and the impact on their families.”
When it comes to controversial teen pregnancies, few have been as shocking as Hunter and Bella’s.
Bella was 14 when she and Hunter conceived their child. The young mother, who has since gained a large following on TikTok, explained in a video that Hunter turned 13 only days after the pregnancy occurred.
“I understand it doesn’t make it any better,” Bella said.
“I understand he was ready faster than I was, and that’s OK, but I was ready when we had sex.”
Responding to accusations online, she said she had not taken advantage of him or pressured him into anything.
“We’ve already talked to the cops about it. It was consensual,” she said.
Addressing claims that she had ruined Hunter’s life, she added: “He chose to stay with me. He chose to take care of our baby.”
Bella gave birth to their son, Wesley, in March 2025. Speaking on Unexpected, Hunter said: “I was 12 when I found out I was going to be a dad. Now I’m 13. I did not think I would be finishing 8th grade and becoming a dad at the same time.”
Custody battle
Hunter’s parents are currently in a custody dispute over him. Court documents show that his father, Casey Johnson, filed a petition seeking full custody, alleging that Hunter’s mother, Stacie Riddle, had created an “unstable and unwholesome environment.”
Casey also claims that Stacie allowed Hunter to “move in with his girlfriend, who became pregnant soon after.”
Casey asked the court to prohibit his son from living with Bella or her family — including staying overnight at her home — and the request was granted.
The temporary custody order states: “Neither party shall allow the minor child to stay overnight at a romantic partner’s house.”
