Sedaka passed away in a Los Angeles hospital on February 27. The iconic performer wrote and recorded numerous hits throughout the 1950s and 60s, including Oh! Carol, Breaking Up Is Hard to Do, Bad Blood, Laughter in the Rain, and Calendar Girl.
Over a career spanning more than five decades, the gifted pianist earned five Grammy nominations. Many of his songs also became hits for other artists, such as Stupid Cupid and Love Will Keep Us Together. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1983.

Neil Sedaka’s cause of death revealed
“A true rock and roll legend, an inspiration to millions, but most importantly, to those of us who were lucky enough to know him, an incredible human being who will be deeply missed.”
TMZ initially reported that Sedaka had been recovering before his condition worsened. His family later confirmed his passing.
Now, his official cause of death has been disclosed. According to his death certificate, obtained by the New York Post, Sedaka died from atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The document also lists kidney failure as a contributing factor.
He was embalmed on March 3 at the Hollywood Funeral Home and laid to rest at Beth Olam Cemetery in Los Angeles.
What the condition means
According to the Cleveland Clinic, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease occurs when plaque — including fat, cholesterol, and other substances — builds up inside the arteries. Over time, this narrows the arteries and restricts blood flow, increasing the risk of heart attack or stroke.
Survived by his family
Neil Sedaka is survived by his wife, Leba Strassberg, whom he married in 1962, and their two children: daughter Dara, 62, and son Marc, 59.
Rest in peace, Neil Sedaka. Our thoughts are with his family.
