Jessica Simpson and Ex Eric Johnson Are Still Living Together as They Work to Sell Their Family Home 2 Years After Their Split: Source

Jessica Simpson and ex‑husband Eric Johnson are still living together in their Hidden Hills, Calif., family home, a source tells PEOPLE.

The former couple is looking to sell the property — which has been on and off the market — as they prioritize their children and maintain an amicable co‑parenting relationship.

A few days before announcing their split in January 2025, the pair had listed the home for $17.9 million.

Simpson, 45, and Johnson, 46, continue to live in the house together but are working toward letting go of the property and “figuring out the best path forward” following their separation, the source says.

“He’s been living there, but they’re working on selling the house,” the insider explains. “The goal has been to keep everything as stable and as friendly for the kids as possible.”

The source adds, “They still have a great relationship. They’re still co‑parenting. The main goal is the kids, but they’re moving toward next steps.” Regarding reports that Johnson has already moved into a new home nearby, the insider clarifies, “He’s not right now, but that is what the plan is.”

For now, Simpson is “focused on her kids. She’s focused on her music right now, her career, getting back to work, and that’s it,” the source says.

The pair first listed the home for sale on Jan. 11, 2025 — just days before Simpson confirmed exclusively to PEOPLE that they were separating.

Property records show the $17.9 million home has been on and off the market since then, most recently being de‑listed on Jan. 8 of this year. The property served as the family home for the singer and the retired NFL player before they split after 10 years of marriage. Simpson and Johnson have lived there with their three children — daughters Maxwell “Maxi” Drew, 13, and Birdie Mae, who turns 7 this month, and son Ace Knute, 12 — since 2013.

Before its January 2025 listing, the home was previously put on the market in September 2023 for $22 million, though that listing was removed in August 2024.

The 11,000‑square‑foot property includes six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. A previous listing notes features such as a four‑car garage, a large pool with a separate shallow pool, a hot tub, a BBQ island, and an outdoor shower.

When confirming her separation from Johnson, Simpson told PEOPLE it was a very “painful situation” for both of them.

“Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” she said in a statement. “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”

Months later, in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE published in October 2025, Simpson opened up about adjusting to single life.

“I feel like we get caught up in numbers,” she said. “‘Like, ‘Oh, at 45, would I think that I would be single again as a mom of three?’ Absolutely not. That was not how I planned it. But it’s just a part of what destiny holds for me.’”

Despite their split, Simpson and Johnson remain close. They even spent Thanksgiving together last year, with Simpson telling TMZ that family will always come “first” for her.
