Jim Carrey appeared at a major public event earlier this year, something he rarely does anymore. His appearance, however, had many people talking about how something didn’t seem right.
Now, his ex Jenny McCarthy is breaking her silence. Keep reading to learn more.
Jim Carrey faced significant online scrutiny after making a public appearance on February 26, 2026, at the 51st César Awards in Paris. Now his ex-girlfriend Jenny McCarthy is addressing the issue head-on.
Actress Jenny McCarthy, who reportedly dated Jim Carrey from 2005 to 2010, shared her reaction to the rumors claiming Carrey hadn’t actually attended the ceremony and had been replaced by a “clone.”
“It was definitely Jim Carrey,” the actress said, setting the record straight.
She didn’t want to dwell on the rumors and instead focused on Carrey himself, saying she thought he “looked very happy at that award show. And I was happy for him. That’s the first thing I noticed.”
She added another takeaway from the situation, saying, “You know, that’s the part that, sadly, people miss.”
Her husband, Donnie Wahlberg, who was with her at the event, agreed, adding, “We’re so obsessed with how he looks that we didn’t consider how happy he looked.”
The rumor, which began gaining traction online, suggested that Jim Carrey’s appearance at the César Awards hinted at something more sinister — that he had been replaced. He was being honored at the ceremony for his contributions to film.
At the event, the actor delivered much of his acceptance speech in French, something he had reportedly prepared for months. He attended with his partner, his daughter and grandson, and several close friends.
People kept commenting that he looked “unrecognizable,” noting that his face appeared fuller, his skin looked different, and his overall presence convinced some that he had undergone plastic surgery or something similar.
“What happened to his face???” one person wrote on X. “What have you freaks done with Jim Carrey? That is not him,” another said. Someone else added, “It looks like the Madame Tussauds wax version.”
Others didn’t understand the outrage, with one person writing, “He looks exactly how I’d expect him to look 20 years after last seeing him. He’s just had a bit of Botox and cheek fillers. Not that shocking and he looks ok to me. We all age.”
Things escalated further when drag performer and makeup artist Alexis Stone — known for similar stunts — claimed on Instagram that they were behind the appearance.
They posted a picture showing a Carrey mask, makeup tools, and a hairpiece with the caption, “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris.”
However, people couldn’t verify whether Alexis Stone was joking. Others pointed out that the image didn’t look real and was likely AI-generated to capitalize on the viral moment.
After the spectacle, Carrey’s management team issued a statement confirming it was indeed him at the event.
The statement read, “Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award.”
César Awards general delegate Gregory Caulier also weighed in, calling the rumors a “non-issue.”
He explained that Carrey had been invited months in advance and that everything had been carefully planned. “He worked on his speech in French for months,” Caulier said.
