Extracts from a new royal book claim that Queen Camilla accused Meghan Markle of “brainwashing” Prince Harry.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have sharply criticized Tom Bower, the author of a new royal book published by The Times on Friday, calling it full of “deranged conspiracy and melodrama,” according to the BBC.

Both Harry and Meghan appear on the cover of the book, Betrayal: Power, Deceit And The Fight For The Future Of The Royal Family.

The book covers several topics involving the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, including their relationship with William and Catherine and their business ventures since stepping back as working royals and relocating to the U.S.

Excerpts claim that Queen Camilla told a friend Meghan had “brainwashed” Prince Harry. Bower also depicts Meghan as a “divisive agent” viewed as a “threat” by the Prince and Princess of Wales, according to the BBC. The author further suggests that Harry fears his brother could strip the Sussexes of their titles.

Harry and Meghan accuse Bower of “deranged conspiracy”

Harry and Meghan have pushed back strongly, accusing Bower of crossing the line from criticism into obsession. In a statement, they said:

“This is someone who has publicly stated, ‘the monarchy in fact depends on actually obliterating the Sussexes from our state of life,’ language that speaks for itself. He has made a career out of constructing ever more elaborate theories about people he does not know and has never met. Those interested in facts will look elsewhere; those seeking deranged conspiracy and melodrama know exactly where to find him.”

According to Bower, tensions between the Sussexes and the future king and queen had been growing even before Harry and Meghan left the UK. He claims William and Catherine were “alarmed” by Meghan and believed she “lamented Harry’s unlikely chances of one day being king, just as she regretted the possibility that she would never be the queen.”

Bower previously wrote Revenge: Meghan, Harry, And the War Between the Windsors, published in 2022.
