Jim Carrey’s rep and the César Awards chief address the rumors surrounding his potential appearance at France’s equivalent of the Oscars, offering clarity amid growing speculation.

A film festival executive for France’s César Awards says rumors about Jim Carrey’s appearance at the ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 26 are “a non‑issue.” Carrey, 64, received an honorary award and attended the event with his daughter Jane, Jane’s teenage son Jackson and his “companion” Min Ah. Before the César Awards, Carrey was last seen publicly when he inducted Soundgarden into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November 2025.

One of the executives behind Jim Carrey’s César Awards appearance is addressing speculation surrounding the actor’s presence at the French ceremony.

Carrey, 64, received an honorary award recognizing his contributions to film and television at the Paris event — France’s equivalent of the Oscars — on Thursday, Feb. 26. His return to the public eye drew significant online attention, with some questioning whether the person onstage was actually Carrey. Prior to the César Awards, the Truman Show star had last appeared publicly when he inducted Soundgarden into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November 2025.

Jim Carrey's

“Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation,” Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of France’s César Awards, told Variety in a statement. Carrey, who delivered his entire acceptance speech in French, “worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words. He came with his partner, his daughter, his grandson and 12 close friends and family members. His longtime publicist accompanied him. His old friend Michel Gondry, who has made a film and two series with him, was there, and they were delighted to see each other again.” Addressing speculation about Carrey’s appearance, Caulier added, “For me, it’s a non‑issue. Just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance.”

Carrey’s rep also confirmed to PEOPLE on March 2, “Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award.” Carrey appeared at the ceremony with his daughter Jane, 38, Jane’s teenage son Jackson and his “companion” Min Ah, all of whom he acknowledged in his speech. “Thank you to my wonderful family, my daughter Jane, and my grandson Jackson. I love you now and forever. Thank you to my sublime companion, Min Ah,” he said in French as the audience applauded his daughter, grandson and girlfriend. “I love you, Min Ah. And finally, thank you to the funniest man I have ever known: my father, Percy Joseph Carrey, who taught me the value of love, generosity and laughter.”

The event appeared to mark the first time Carrey and Min Ah stepped out publicly as a couple. It remains unclear how long they have been together.

Carrey was announced as this year’s Honorary César Award recipient in October 2025. At the time, the French Academy praised him for his “exceptional versatility” across film and television. At the end of his Feb. 26 speech, Carrey jokingly asked the audience how his French sounded. “Almost mediocre, right? Forgive me, I didn’t speak French, but I’m just learning it. My tongue is tired,” he said, according to a translation.

Carrey most recently appeared on the big screen as the villainous Dr. Robotnik in the three Sonic the Hedgehog films, released in 2020, 2022 and 2024. He had previously said he was “fairly serious” about retiring from acting while promoting Sonic 2before returning to reprise the role for the franchise’s third installment.
